The MSc in Sports Industry Management cohort recently benefitted from a new sports company visit to Decathlon’s International Design Center located in Passy, about 15 minutes away from the town of Chamonix located in the French Alps.
Surrounded by exceptional scenery, this center is home to a flagship store which displays Decathlon’s brands (Quechua, Wedzee and Simond) and products. The Decathlon facilities also include workshops and offices where designers, engineers and project managers are directly in touch with the consumers. This structure of having stores located right next to workshops and factories is something Decathlon has also put in place with their brand Tribord in Hendaye (located at the border between France and Spain) or with Kipsta in Lille (northern France).
The overall goal of this company visit was to show the students how designers, engineers and sales representatives work together within Decathlon as well as explain how products are prototyped and designed.
